Lets talk about teeth!

My teeth were never really an issue or something that I ever thought about. They weren't completely straight and they weren't completely wonky either. I was pretty content with how they looked and happy with how healthy they were.

However, at the beginning of the year I started to notice them begin to deteriorate. I started to deal with extremely sensitive and bleeding gums and I had no idea why this sudden change came about. Like anyone else, I started to look into ways to help with the bleeding and went for a well known brand called Corsodyl. I soon wished I hadn't tried it at all! From the first use I found that the toothpaste actually stained my teeth. The bleeding improved slightly, however I felt that overall the look and state of my teeth were actually worse than before I started to use the the toothpaste & mouthwash. Not only was it a difficult taste to get used to (if you know, you know!) but it had also very badly stained my top and lower front teeth!

I persisted for a month in the hope that the bleeding would at least stop, only to establish the bleeding was not much better and now I had slightly more yellow teeth with some very bad stains that did not want to go anywhere. I was suddenly very aware of how they looked and of course, they still felt sensitive and uncomfortable.

Behold! The incredible stains left behind on my teeth. I even used flash in this photo (which goes against all my beliefs) to really show the full stain-age situation!

I gave up with my teeth for around a month and tried to not think about how they looked. In their own time they recovered from the bleeding, but I was left with stains that I really wasn't too chuffed about.

One evening, during my usual Instagram browsing, I stumbled across a video about activated charcoal for your teeth. I hadn't seen someone use charcoal on their teeth before and was pretty interested in the benefits of it. After some research I found a little bottle of magic from LUSH called 'BOOM! Toothy Tabs'. After browsing some good reviews I decided to purchase a bottle of the Toothy Tabs for £5.65 from my local LUSH store and was pretty excited to start using them. I was intrigued what they would be like to use instead of toothpaste, the reviews I had come across explained how they had noticed a change after just a few uses and that they actually preferred using them to your standard toothpaste. I decided to put the product to the test!

I found these little tabs pretty handy to use, they are also really great if you travel a lot. You can take a few tablets with you on the go, they are so simple to use and take up no room at all. You simply crush up a tablet in your mouth, wet your toothbrush and start brushing away. A foam is created from the crushed tab (tastes like cola) you brush your teeth as usual, rinse it out and BOOM. Refreshed teeth! The ingredients online describes a blast of Aniseed, and as an absolute despiser of the taste of Aniseed I can vouch that I cannot taste this. If you also hate Aniseed, don't be afraid to try it! I was also intrigued to see the many different flavours of LUSH's toothy tab range and I'm looking forward to giving some of the other flavours a try.

You can find out more about the Toothy Tabs and the other flavours here on the LUSH Website!

A friend also sent me a link from the LUSH site about the abrasivity of different toothy tabs and other toothpastes which was interesting to find out more about. I must admit, this article made me realise I was using the tabs too often through my over-excitement. I now use the charcoal tabs around 3-4 times a week, usually in the morning, along with any toothpaste I fancy at night (not Corsodyl...) and love how clean my teeth feel.

After around 2 - 3 uses the stains really lightened up as can be seen in these before and after photos below.

So after around 2 - 3 tries of the toothy-tabs, I was really surprised at how quickly they removed the stains, especially on my lower teeth. In the past 3 months of using these toothy tablets I have even taken up a new coffee addiction, and I can honestly say they have really sustained the stain-free look of my teeth. After 3 months of useage I still have half a bottle left which is really good value for the price. I easily have a good 3 months left of tabs! I will be investing in the charcoal tablets again as well as another flavour to test out. I hope to replace my general toothpaste with a different flavour & less abrasive bottle of tablets. I thought I would miss the minty fresh breath after brushing with regular toothpaste, but I personally feel refreshed and squeaky clean after every use.

Here is a before and after image of the day before I started using the toothy tabs in comparison to the second image which was taken the day before I wrote and posted this blog! It took me around 2 months to achieve the whiter and almost completely stain free teeth I was aiming for!

Overall I am very happy with my experience with this LUSH product and cannot recommend it enough. I am looking forward to testing out more LUSH products in the future and I hope this encourages someone to give the product a go for themselves!

(I also looked more into how activated charcoal actually works when it comes to cleaning your teeth which you can read about here.)
