Boom Town Festival 2017

It's official. One of my new favourite places is Boom Town Fair!

After hearing all the stories from my sister and my friends who had gone the year previous, I was convinced Boom Town was a place I needed to experience! Situated on Matterley Estate, near Winchester, Hampshire in England, Boom Town Fair is an incredible festival full of colour and creativity. The festival is well known for it's surreal story-line and elaborate sets. I visited during Chapter 9 and loved seeing the story unfold during the 4 days of madness.

Different 'towns' make up the Boom Town fair, all with their own style; Trench Town, Town Centre, Old Town, Wild West, Mayfair, Whistlers Green, Kids Town, Sector 6, Distrkt 5, Barrio Loco & China Town make up the wonderful madness. Each town has secret rooms, dancing arenas, actors and more to keep you entertained throughout the weekend. There are hundreds of food stalls well worth browsing, each day I was spoilt for choice for each meal, from freshly made stone baked pizza, macaroni cheese, sushi, Caribbean & Thai street food, there were also plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians.

So much hard work and time had gone into creating each town, there was no space left untouched! Every detail and decoration worked so well in it's surroundings and you could see that there must have been an enormous creative team that put each piece together. Some of the sets were enormous, as well as having incredible lighting shows & music with each stage performance.

There really is something for everyone at this festival and absolutely no way you can spend a moment bored. Boom Town is not only for adults, there were plenty of families strolling around together, taking in the whimsical scenery and enjoying the rides and acts. There are tons of stalls for activities if you fancy, in particular at 'Whistlers Green'. We watched people making dreamcatchers, cutting and creating jewellery, face painting, juggling & spoon painting. There were small performances, professional masseuses and meditation sessions, everywhere you turned there was something going on.

'Whistlers Green' was one of my favourite parts of the fair. The peaceful atmosphere was just what we all needed on a calm Sunday afternoon, a perfect place to escape the crazy fun & commotion in the other towns. We lazed amongst the trees, listened to the wind chimes, napped, laughed & chatted, whilst trying tasty food and watching the world go by.

My one complaint about Boom Town is that there were too many things for me to take photos of!

The costumes and effort that people had gone to were amazing to see, everyone felt so free to express themselves through colourful costumes and outfits, glitter and face paints to get into the true Boom Town festival vibe. One of the main things I love about Boom Town is that it is a place where everyone can be themselves, there is no judgement, just a place full of love, peace, music and laughter!
